Water & Wastewater Engineering

Since its inception, PEER’s multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists and planners has managed the planning, design and implementation of a wide array of water supply, water resources, sanitary and storm sewer system and water/wastewater treatment projects. We stay abreast of EPA and state and local regulatory requirements as well as the latest advancements in wastewater treatment technology.

PEER has delivered exceptional Architecture & Engineering (A&E) Support Services for over 30 years. From planning through support of the start-up and operation of facilities, PEER has the technical and communication skills needed to ensure client satisfaction and project success.  Moreover, PEER has experience providing these services following natural and manmade disasters including disaster response, multi-hazard mitigation planning, recovery planning and federal reimbursement request management.

As the name implies, A&E Support Services focuses on supporting Architects, Engineers and Owners in planning, designing, constructing, operating and maintaining new facilities that meet the needs of the community in an environmentally and economically viable manner.  These services, which are provided in keeping with both U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED and Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure’s Envision™ requirements, include:

  • Planning and Public Participation: Infrastructure Planning; Land-use Planning; Public Involvement Design and Implementation; and Public Outreach Activities.
  • Civil Engineering: Site Analysis and Design; Pedestrian Access; Vehicle Access and Parking; Drainage; and Sediment and Erosion Control Design.
  • Engineering Services During Construction: Bid Support; Construction Administration; Resident Inspection; O&M Manual Development; Start-up Support and Record Drawing Preparation.

Field Services

Over the past several years, PEER has been expanding its Field Services discipline, which provides support by: performing mechanical and visual inspection of sanitary sewer and storm sewers; conducting pipeline cleaning and inspection services; executing closed circuit television (CCTV) inspections of mainlines, service connections, and underground structures, such as manholes; locating and inspecting utility structures in roadways and easements; evaluating assets for structural, functional, and constructability conditions; and managing traffic control activities.

What sets PEER’s Field Services discipline apart is its Lateral Inspection capability using the new, state-of-the-art “pan & tilt” camera that allows crews to get a better visual of the pipeline. PEER and our clients alike are excited about this technological advancement in the industry because crews can perform the work more efficiently and thoroughly.

PEER’s Field Staff is NASSCO-certified PACP, MACP, LACP as well as Maryland Certified Temporary Traffic Control managers and has the equipment and experience to perform a wide range of small to large complex projects in a safe and timely manner using a variety of equipment, including: six sets of CCTV trucks; three manhole inspection units; one lateral cleanout inspection van; one – 80 GPM straight jet truck; two – 80 combination jet/vac trucks; and, three high output smoke blowers.

Energy & Environmental Sustainability

Together with its partners, PEER’s Energy and Environmental Sustainability division aims to reduce energy consumption, increase renewable energy generating capacity, halt the growth of peak electricity energy demand, improve the efficiency of low-income housing, lessen the growth of energy demand of the largest energy users and increase the number of green-collar jobs.

PEER provides support for the design, development and implementation of “green” communities, i.e. energy efficient and environmentally responsive communities, in both the residential and small business sectors. Our staff is proficient in preparing energy use and energy profile studies, performing an analysis on the current systems and providing recommendations for implementation of renewable energy systems in these communities. Our team also provides energy generation and management services and low impact development studies for ‘green roofs’.

We mainly focus in the areas of:

  • Mitigation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
  • Implementation of Demand Side Management Technologies
  • Energy Efficiency and Energy Management/Implementation Services
