Remedial
Action Operations and Long-term Monitoring, Oregon Air National Guard Base, Portland, Oregon |
|
Under its task-order based, environmental support services worldwide for the Air national Guard, PEER and its subcontractor, Shaw Environmental are currently conducting remedial operations at the 142nd Fighter Wing located in Portland, Oregon. The remedy selected is in-situ chemical oxidation using potassium permanganate throughout the lateral and vertical extent of groundwater contaminated by chlorinated solvents. Six injections over a period of time are anticipated. Each injection consists of 114 points to 650 points of the oxidant. The volume of oxidant used is estimated to range from 34,200 gallons to 195,000 gallons. The initial injections are focused on oxidizing the more concentrated chlorinated solvent solutions, and subsequent injections will focus on oxidizing the remaining dissolved solvents, which is more difficult as the concentration of the solvents in the groundwater is reduced. Currently, the team has completed monitoring well installation, baseline groundwater sampling, and two permanganate injections. Contact: Cheryl Brewer |
