Preparation
of Master Plan for Norfolk State University |
|
PEER is working as a subcontractor with John Portman & Associates on the preparation of the Master Plan for Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. Norfolk State, which is traditionally referred to as a historically black university, has over the years expanded its sphere of influence and is now considered a premier Virginia State University. Because of its expanded role of higher education in the State of Virginia and its physical location in the City of Norfolk, it is clear that the University needs a growth and development plan for its main campus and satellite campuses that will insure its viability for the next 30 years to 50 years. PEER is responsible for the review of and recommendations for the infrastructure (underground and above ground utilities, roads, walkways, transportation routes) in and around the university and its environmental setting and impact. Because the campus tends to be landlocked and parking is limited, the University desires to have a walking campus as much as possible. To that end, PEER is preparing the transportation study and traffic plan for the master plan. Additionally, because of its geology and climate, drainage and runoff are major issues and these items will also be addressed by PEER as part of the master planning effort. Other members of the team are Arnold Associates, landscape architects and WaveGuide Consulting, industrial technology consultants. |
