Dr. Lilia Abron at the 2012 American
Chemical Society 'Women in STEM' Workshop!

PEER Consultants is very proud to announce that Dr. Lilia Abron, P.E., BCEE, President and CEO of PEER, spoke at this year’s American Chemical Society (ACS) Press Conference in San Diego to discuss her participation in a STEM study conducted over 35 years ago, analyzing the challenges ‘women of color’ face in the STEM field. She is the only member from the original study to be present!

About “The Double Bind”…

  • In 1976, The American Association of University Women, namely Shirley Mahaley Malcom, Paula Quick Hall, and Janet Welsh Brown conducted the original study, titled “The Double Bind: The Price of Being a Minority Woman in Science.”

  • Dr. Lilia Abron was among the 30 ‘women of color’ that participated in the original study, which analyzed the challenges faced by minority women in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

  • In 2011, on its thirty-fifth anniversary, a follow-up study explored current obstacles for minority women in STEM, concluding that there is still a “lack of support” from universities and other educational institutions.

  • It is an honor for Dr. Lilia Abron, President of PEER Consultants, P.C., to have been selected to give a press conference at the STEM workshop in San Diego to share her experiences and achievements since the study took place.
