The Horizon!!!

We have gone on to deliver climate friendly, sustainable, human environment projects in South Africa for the past 15 years.  Our projects have been supported and paid for by the South African government, other national governments (British, Dutch, and French), bi-lateral and multi-lateral organizations and private sector organizations.  We operated a pilot, green finance loan program for the IFC to help develop policies and processes for providing training and financing to small contractors that would build climate friendly, affordable structures in South African townships.  We have built and/or influenced the building of over 10,000 energy efficient homes in hundreds of communities all over South Africa.

Solor Energy Panels

With this record of accomplishments, we intend to present our story of the Witsand Community, a 2200 unit, passive solar community in Cape Town that is the results of the collaboration between the Witsand Community, PEER Africa, the City of Cape Town and ASCH Consulting Engineers, and the UNFCCC COP, meeting this December in Copenhagen.  Ten years ago we presented our first housing project implemented in Kimberley, and now we

want to showcase another outstanding project.  None of this is possible without our partners and we recognizeTami Eiland, CEO of the Kutlawanong Civic Integrated Housing Trust (KCIHT) in Kimberly, Northern Province, RSA and Patrick Hwili, president of the Witsand iEEECOTM Housing Beneficiary Support Organization (WEBSO), Cape Town, RSA.

For the next seven months this site will focus on our work related to mitigating effects of climate change and how environmental engineering can contribute significantly to this endeavor.  Come back monthly to read our progress on the road to Copenhagen and be sure to attend our seminar if you are there in December 2009 for COP 15.
